ISO/IEC 17024 Conformity assessment – deals with the general requirements for bodies operating certification of persons in order to enhance confidence in the bodies engaged in personnel certification. Accreditation regarding bodies engaged in ISO/IEC 17024 personnel certification is a procedure through which an authoritative body provides formal recognition of technical competence for specific activities conducted by the certifying body, based on third-party assessment. This is based on ISO/IEC 17024:2012 standard. ISO/IEC 17024 is an International Standard drafted in accordance with the rules provided in the ISO/IEC Directives, Part 2.
ISO/IEC 17024 Accreditation is managed by IAF MRA (International Accreditation Forum Multilateral Recognition Arrangement). IAF’s primary engagement is in the development and updating of guidelines related with accreditation activities. Owing to such international arrangements acceptance of person between countries to which MRA partners represent is ensured. Upon accreditation of certification bodies by such recognized body, the certificate of person receives acceptance globally because of mutual recognition. These standard were initially published in year 2003 and which got revised in 2012. The following principles are contained in the standards:
- The overarching purpose of ISO 17024 certification of personnel is to provide a recognition to an individual's competence to perform a job or a task.
- The ISO 17024 certification body is responsible for ensuring that only those personnel who demonstrate competence are awarded certification.
- The certification body should act responsibly, so as to provide and enhance confidence of the interested parties in its competence, integrity and impartiality.
- Certification of persons offers value emitting through public confidence and trust. Public confidence is based on a valid assessment of competence, through a third party, which is reassessed and reconfirmed at defined intervals.
ISO/IEC 17024:2012 Certification
ISO/IEC 17024 Accreditation Certificate is issued by an accreditation body, authorized by IAF MRA (International Accreditation Forum Multilateral Recognition Arrangement) so as to provide an accreditation under the ISO/IEC 17024:2012. The ISO 17024:2012 certification is issued for a period of three years and is an outcome of a successful completion of pre-assessment and registration (final) assessment. The ISO 17024 certificate’s validity is for a period of three years from the date of issue. After a period of one year surveillance audits are conducted by the accreditation body. Once the period of three-year cycle is completed, renewal assessment is conducted for continuation of the certificate.
